Isabella sits down with Peiwen Chen, Counsel at White & Case's Hong Kong office and associate Justin Chang who transferred from White & Case Melbourne to their Seoul office on 6 July 2021. Peiwen completed an undergraduate degree of Commerce/ Law at Melbourne university before beginning her legal career in Melbourne. In 2016 Peiwen moved to the White & Case Hong Kong office as an Associate and became Counsel in January 2021.

Justin completed his JD at Melbourne university and became an associate at White & Case in 2020. He speaks to Isabella about the incredible opportunities he has already had working at White & Case including, client secondments and completing a Graduate rotations in Japan.

Isabella sits down with Jacqui Zalcberg, international human rights lawyer currently working as a Human Rights Officer with the Office of the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights.

Jacqui provides some insight on her work with the UN, discusses her previously held roles, and shares some advice for students looking to enter the international human rights field.

Jacqui completed her Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Arts at Monash University and completed her Master of Laws at Columbia Law School. One of Jacqui’s work experiences prior to her current role with the UN was with EarthRights International on their strategic litigation cases against corporate defendants Chevron and Shell for violations of international human rights law.

Mimi is joined by Margaret Young, a professor at Melbourne Law School who specialises in public international law, the law of the sea, international trade law and climate change law. They discuss Margaret’s diverse range of experiences at the UN, the World Bank and NGOs, as well as in private practise and academia. Margaret provides us with an invaluable insight into how the law, both in a practical and theoretical sense, interacts with the climate change crisis.

Margaret holds a PhD and an LLM (First class) from the University of Cambridge and a BA/LLB (Hons) from the University of Melbourne. She is a published academic author and is currently working on a number of interesting projects, including leading an Australian Research Council-funded project with Professor Hilary Charlesworth on ‘The Potential and Limits of International Adjudication’.
